CO2 Hydroponics – The Benefits of This System

Greenhouse gases are looked down upon these days because no one really understands how these gases are the overall important thing for the plant to flourish. Lack of information leads to people ignoring the importance of CO2 Hydroponics – an absolutely very important concept for the hydroponic gardeners.

Why CO2 Hydroponics?

Carbon dioxide is used in photosynthesis, which is the process in plants where solar energy is converted into chemical energy and stored in various forms (like sugars) to fuel a plant’s metabolism. This process requires both water and CO2 with the end result being food and energy for the plant plus excess oxygen, which is released for us to breathe. The carbon from CO2 is used to build plant matter and increase the amount of carbon, a building block of life, in a plant’s system to strengthen that plant’s yield substantially (around a 30% stronger yield).

Considering this very important role of carbon di oxide in the growth of plants it becomes mandatory to ensure that the plants are given the necessary amount of CO2 so that the yield is good.

Balance – An Important Thing to Keep in Mind

While you might think using CO2 for hydroponics isn’t a lot of work, it really is. Making sure that the balance is appropriately met is the thing that needs to be kept in mind or the yield might just get bad. What you need to keep in mind is that balance is a very important point; 1300 – 1500 parts per million gives the highest increase to grow yield, so this is the exact figure that you will have to maintain. Too little carbon di oxide can halt the growth or literally starve the plant to death. Similarly, too much CO2 can poison the plant and kill it. In both these cases what you need to do is maintain the level, and understand exactly how good you are at maintaining the level.

CO2 for Grow Rooms

Next important thing on the list is selection of CO2 for grow rooms and this can be done on the basis of your plant, the grow room and the quantity of CO2 your plants will need for the right yield.

CO2 for grow rooms is available as the following –

  • Dry Ice

  • CO2 Canisters

  • Organic CO2

Selection process will never be difficult if you know exactly how things need to be done for the good of your plants.
