Hydroponic Pumps – Choosing the One that Does Best for You
Technology has changed the way things are happening; it has touched people’s life in a manner that things have become easier to start, control, manage and complete.
Even in the case of gardening the way hydroponics has made things possible it cannot be denied that there is a long way to go and gardeners have something to look forward to. For those of you who have little or no information about hydroponics here is something you need to know – hydroponics is a subset of hydro culture, the method of growing plants without soil, using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent.
However, those who are already involved in hydroponics gardening would know how complexity it involves – from choosing the right hydroponics system to the selection of pots, hydroponic water pumps, odor control systems, fans, lights, etc. there is a lot that needs to be checked and taken care of.
This blog particularly covers the selection process of a hydroponics water pump. Read until the end and get some important information –
Before choosing a pump, pick your system design. From that single choice, most decisions can be determined.
To choose a water pump for an Ebb and Flow system, calculate the number of gallons your container will hold. This will give you the water volume needed. With the water volume determined, you can now figure out the height at which the pump will need to pump the water above the water line in the reservoir. For this, it is required that you determine the position of both the system and reservoir.
This is however not the case with drip systems and it is important that you make the judgment wisely when choosing the pump for this system.
Drip systems are basic structures with hundreds of hybrids - the same two determiners—water volume and the height the water will need to be pumped will help narrow down which water pump is most suited for the job. Which water pump will be required for a drip system is more difficult to calculate but also more forgiving. Soaking time can be easily adjusted with a timer.
Those who have been involved in the process of hydroponics for a long time now believe that it is suitable to choose the pump that pumps twice the water than the minimum GPH of what is required for the hydroponic system. This is important to allow some flexibility in the setup and future adjustments; the water flow can be reduced when needed and most pumps have a built-in restrictor.
Apart from water pumps there are several available options of air pumps for hydroponics.
